Because I think I might be.
Let me explain.
This morning one of my clients tagged me in an article on Facebook. The article was by Esquire and it was about this new breed of man that has been born.
This new breed of man is called a 'spornosexual'. This phrase happens to be created by the same guy who created the term 'metrosexual', which explain a lot.
A spornosexual (sporno) is a culmination of the metrosexual and bodybuilder.
According to the article, a sporno dresses nicely, in brand name clothing, fresh hair cuts, tight jeans and as well as any other ridiculous stereotypes associated with the metrosexual man.
He also wants to be lean and muscular like a bodybuilder, minus all the muscle mass.
As I was reading this article I thought, ".......is this ME they're talking about? Am I a *gasp* ...spornosexual!?"
I certainly checked all the boxes, and I was intrigued, so I kept reading.
The writer of the article wanted a piece of the sporno life, so he decided to do a 3 month transformation program with a trainer.
This program included eating 6-8 meals per day, almost throwing up during the first workout session, and hating absolutely everything about life.
Transform he did, going from your everyday 30 year old man with a few extra pounds to a much leaner 30 year old man.
Good for him. This is where it turns sour.
His conclusion at the end of the program had not one positive tone. The best part of finishing his plan was the fact he could now go back to his old diet and lifestyle.
The comments section wasn't any better.
"I love cake too much to ever do this"
"I tried this once, but I went on vacation and ended up looking bigger than my wife did when she was pregnant."
Here's my issue with this article. They gave their massive readership two amazing reasons NOT to attempt to get in shape.
It's just not worth it.
Listen, this isn't how it's supposed to be. If you're just getting started, let me give you two pieces of actionable advice that you can apply to your own plan.
Before you start thinking I'm a softy, or I'm the type of coach to coddle my clients, I'm not. I believe in working hard and getting back what you're willing to give.
I also understand human nature and human physiology pretty well, and starting out with a manageable but effective training and nutrition plan will not only provide more results in the long term, it's going to be pretty effective in the short term too.
Here's the big bonus: Life Won't Suck. Which is always nice.
I've personally worked with 100's of people who were just starting their workout and nutrition plans, and the approach we use is not only extremely effective, it also keeps the process enjoyable.
This is meant to enhance your life, not take away from it.
If you need some help getting leaner, stronger or healthier and you want a plan that will enhance not only your body but your life, I would love to show you how we do it.
