"The genius thing that we did was, we didn’t give up." — Jay Z
Gaining traction and acquiring success, whatever that means to you, is a funny thing.
It’s never a straight up transaction. When you go to the grocery store and want to buy a bundle of bananas, because bananas are delicious, you give the cashier the money, and you take the bananas.
Straight up, one and done.
I think many people expect success to work in the same way. Do the stuff, reap the rewards. Straight up, straight forward, and simple.
Nope. Quite the opposite. I’ve thought this too, but I’ve seen how this transaction works too many times. It’s anything but straight forward and straight up.
Can I get weird? Let’s get weird. Not (just) because I’m weird, but because success is weird.
See, we think acquiring success is physical and mechanical. We try and impose the laws of our 5 senses on it. Success laughs at our laws.
Success is more energetic than physical. It needs to build, and hit a threshold before it spills over into your life.
Everybody reaches a point in their quest where they scratch their head and wonder where the fruits of their labor are hiding. According to my calculations, I should be jacked/ lean/ wealthy/ winning by now.
A great body, a successful business, acquiring a great skill set in any area…it’s all reserved for those who are willing to scrap for it.
When you reach the point when you’ve been busting your ass for what seems like forever, when you’ve paid more than your share in blood, sweat and tears and your version of success still eludes you. This is when most people stop.
Success is waiting. It’s saving itself for someone who’s willing to punch, kick and scratch their way to the end.
Success doesn’t come to those who want fair and straight up transactions. Success lets you struggle. For a long time. When you least suspect it, it shows up in bucket fulls.
Whether you’re trying to get in great shape, build a business, raise a family, or just be the greatest at what you do, be prepared to fight longer and harder than you ever thought.
The law of winning is don’t ever give up.
No matter what, keep doing the work. Keep putting in the hours and intense effort. Keep putting your entire heart and soul into it.
If you keep doing this, even if things don’t seem to budge, eventually things will start to happen.
Just keep going.
