People often feel that their goals are in perfect alignment with the emotional states they value most. More often than not, this isn't the case, and these valued emotions are actually causing these same people to sabotage themselves as soon as they star to make some traction.
Further, the emotions people want to AVOID can also be causing them to sabotage their efforts in order to avoid dealing with that potential pain. For example, if your goal is to be successful in a certain area of your life, but one of your biggest pain points is the thought of rejection, this will cause you to take a few steps towards that goal, and then slam on the breaks to avoid the potential rejection you may experience when you reach that success.
As we know, success without some rejection is impossible. Also, the desire to avoid pain overrides the desire for pleasure every day of the week.
This is just a small example.
Becoming the lean, healthy, energized and powerful person you want to be starts with your mind.
Exercise and nutrition strategies are important, but in order to make sure you don't keep on taking 1 step forward and 2 steps back, you need to make sure your values line up with your goals.
Without knowing it, you can create a tug of war which causes you to sabotage yourself every time you make steps towards those goals.
